Take Heart Homes: The Eclectic Home of Photographer Amanda Salata

At Travel Patterns we’re inspired by homes that tell a story; spaces that reflect the personalities and interests of the people who reside behind the walls.

Through our “Take Heart Homes” series we introduce you to unique people living in our local community and the eclectic homes they create.

In today’s tour, we explore the eclectic home of photographer Amanda Salata. We had so much fun searching for tiny hidden details throughout Amanda’s home where each space invites you to take a closer look.

We hope you enjoy this disco ball filled home full of color and fun!

INTRODUCE YOURSELF

AMANDA: My name is Amanda, and my husband Corey and I live in our home with four boys and four cats. There is never a dull moment around here! I love creating photographs, traveling, reading, documenting memories, and taking care of my many plants.

How do you feel about living in the Huntsville and Madison area? What is your favorite part about where you live?

AMANDA:  I have always lived in Alabama, but moved further south in the state for a few years. After moving back “home,” I no longer take Huntsville for granted. Just seeing the Rocket in the sky on my way home from work each day makes me smile.  Being a short drive away from so many attractions is my favorite part of living here - we really enjoy Lowe Mill, Campus 805, and downtown Huntsville.

Where do you find inspiration for decorating your home?

AMANDA: There is so much inspiration on Instagram, of course, but I also find a lot of ideas in antique stores, magazines, and while traveling.

If you had to describe your home style in three words, what would they be?

AMANDA: Eclectic, vibrant, and fun.

What is your favorite space in your home?

AMANDA: Our home library is my favorite room.  It’s my one room oasis filled with books and plants and a comfortable place to read.

Favorite place to source items for your home?

AMANDA: Antique stores, particularly larger ones with a variety of vendors.

Do you have a favorite piece in your home?

AMANDA: I love my vintage bird cage with a hanging disco ball.  It always gives a great sparkle surprise in the morning light.

Any advice for creating a home you love?

AMANDA: If you find a piece you love, buy it! Even if you don’t know exactly where it will work best in your home, you will likely find a place for it.  Don’t be afraid of buying something out of the ordinary; your home is for you and no one else.  Also, take your time furnishing and decorating your home.  Try not to buy pieces just to have something in a certain spot.

how does your home show a unique piece of your personality and story?

AMANDA: Our home is full of things we love and collect.  My husband and I enjoy going to concerts, and we have a wall of concert posters that we have collected over the years in our bedroom.  When we travel, bookstores and pictures are my first priorities, so a lot of our books and photographs are from our travels.  The ability to look around our home and remember amazing places we have visited and concerts we have attended helps keep memories fresh.
