DAY 1 - ARRIVAL DAY

WELCOME TO GUATEMALA!

You’ll be greeted at the international airport in Guatemala City and transported to beautiful Antigua, a UNESCO World Heritage town where our journey begins.

Our welcome dinner is a hands on cooking class where we’ll learn the ancient art of tortilla making, then dine together as you get to know your fellow travelers.

Your accommodations for the evening will be at a chic boutique hotel where the history of Antigua is fused with modern luxuries.

DAY 2

We’ll begin our day with a walking tour of Antigua that will end at the famous Cerro de la Cruz overlooking the city. You’ll learn the history of the region, and explore many of the ruins found around each corner.

In the afternoon we’ll take a private transport to our next destination on the shores of Lake Atitlan where we’ll spend the next few days.

To break up the roadtrip, we’ll stop and enjoy a traditional lunch together, and end our day with dinner at our lakeside villa.

DAY 3

After waking and having breakfast at our villa, we’ll spend the day in a nearby weaving community.

We’ll spend the day meeting the artisan weavers behind many of Travel Patterns’ products, learn about backstrap weaving and try your hand at this ancient craft!

You’ll be immersed into the local community, meeting some of our weaving partners and seeing how they work and grow together.

Our day will end back at our villa with a relaxing sunset dinner.

DAYS 4 & 5

The next couple of days will be spent relaxing and discovering all that Lake Atitlan has to offer!

We’ll learn about the resources of this area - from natural dye techniques and visiting a coffee farm.

We’ll explore the waters via boat and kayak, and hike the lush forests gaining new perspectives of the surrounding volcanos.

The lakeside towns offer wonderful opportunities to shop the handicrafts that Guatemala is known for. We’ll walk with you through the streets, and introduce you to some of our favorite spots!

These days will also provide time to relax and unwind.

One of the evenings we’ll enjoy dinner out at a fun local restaurant.

DAY 6

Today we’ll visit the largest artisan market in Central America; Chichicastenango, or Chichi for short. Today is the reason for that extra bag you packed! We’ll wander the stalls of this historic market, shopping with artisan cooperatives and family businesses who have set up booths at the market for years.

We’ll educate you on the best ways to shop responsibly when purchasing hand-made products, and how to look for genuine pieces.

After our time at Chichi, we’ll drive to Antigua and end our day at a local woman-owned jewelry studio. At the studio, we’ll participant in a jade workshop, where you get to select your own piece of jade, and learn how to craft your own piece of jewelry!

Adorned with your new handmade bauble, we’ll have an intimate dinner feasting together at a local taco bar.

DAY 7

Our last full day in Antigua can be spent at your leisure; visiting shops or ruins that you missed earlier in the week, relaxing at the hotel, OR you can end on an adventurous note by hiking volcano Pacaya (please note there is an extra cost for the hike).

We’ll end our incredible trip with a farewell dinner located in a courtyard garden restaurant.

DAY 8 - DEPARTURE DAY

After breakfast, you’ll be transported to Guatemala City for your international flight home.

Hopefully with bags full of incredible textiles, stories to share, and new friends!
