Letters from Lauren: A Community Table

Our brick and mortar shop has been open for six months now, and we just recently had our first workshop in the space. Holding that first event was such a special milestone for me personally. For years I dreamt of not only having a space where we would share beautiful products (and the people who make them) with you, but also a place where our community could gather together as well.

Travel Patterns - Community Workshops In Huntsville Alabama

If you’ve been to the shop, then you’ve probably noticed the 100 year old, fifteen foot long, green mercantile table that takes center stage in the space. Every week we get asked where we found that table.

It was my grandmother’s!

She owned an antique and artisan goods shop, and I grew up running around and watching my Granny work from that very table. So when it became a reality for me to open my own brick and mortar, I knew that we had to plan around her table.

My Granny in her shop; the table is under there I promise! And do the shelves look familiar as well?

Seeing our community come together to create beautiful things, hold meaningful conversations, and laugh around that table brought me so much joy. My grandmother’s table reminds me of the legacies we leave behind. The object itself doesn’t necessarily hold meaning, so much as the memories attached to it. I love that my family has been creating memories around that table for years, and that you all now get to be a part of it as well!

I know we’re a business - that we have to sell products, and that our social media presence is a necessary tool for business growth - but my real hope is that our shop will be a place for you to create meaningful moments in person with us. True connection and community is our goal as we share stories of our lives and the lives that are connected together through the shop.

It’s been said that we’re “the shop around the corner” for so many of you. This means the world to me and I hope you will continue to show up and feel a sense of community when you walk through our doors.

Take Heart. Take Flight.

— Lauren
